Rumors surrounding Apple’s folding iPhone are growing every month. Imagine a smartphone without any visible creases on the screen, unlike current models on the market. The Cupertino company is seeking to achieve this perfection for its future folding device planned for 2026.
This quest for excellence is confirmed today by a significant financial announcement. This is a major investment made by Fine M-Tec, a key supplier in the folding screen production chain.
Ming-Chi Kuo teaches us today via a publication that the Apple supplier has just realized an investment of 17.5 billion Korean won to develop its high-precision laser processing capabilities.
Cutting-edge technology to eliminate the crease
Fine M-Tec’s investment, which will extend from July 2025 to January 2027confirms the predictions of analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The latter anticipated that Apple’s strict crease-free requirements would accelerate the adoption of laser drilling for the production of metal display plates.
No products found.
Note that this laser drilling technology allows the manufacturing of special metal plates for screens. These plates are crucial for obtaining a perfectly flat surface once the device is unfolded. The folding iPhone could thus display a 7.8-inch screen without any visible traces of folding.
The information aligns with previous rumors suggesting a folding iPhone with a flawless 7.8-inch screen. The “book” format seems favored by Apple, rather than a clamshell model like the Galaxy Z Flip. The release remains scheduled for late 2026 or early 2027, giving Cupertino time to refine every detail.
Samsung forced to adapt in the face of the Apple threat
Faced with the planned arrival of the folding iPhone, Samsung is already preparing its response. The Korean giant will also adopt laser drilled metal plates for its Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has only just been released.
Let us point out, however, that it was Apple who paved the way for this kind of flawless screenbecause the Z Fold 8 will undoubtedly be released before the folding iPhone.
This strategic decision by Samsung illustrates the impact that Apple can have on the market even before the launch of its product. With these massive investments in production technologies, the folding iPhone seems destined for great success.
