Since the launch of the iPhone by Steve Jobs, Apple has introduced new smartphones every year. These events (keynote) are broadcast live by the Apple brand and followed by millions of people around the world. But while waiting for Apple’s next announcements, scheduled for September, here is everything we already know about the iPhone 17.
4 iPhones, including a “small” new one

If the rumors prove true, the star of this year should be the “iPhone 17 Air”. This new smartphone, thinner than the others, should arrive in September. Apple has reportedly reduced its thickness by 30%, down to 5.5 millimeters. The iPhone 17 “Air” would then be the thinnest in the brand’s history.

iPhone 17: big changes coming?
The year 2024 and the vintage of the iPhone 16 was marked by major software development. Apple intelligence was created, occupying the majority of the brand’s teams. This major project left little room for hardware, and the iPhone 16 arrived with few changes.
This year it should be quite the opposite. Apple could revise its technical sheet in depth, starting with the size of its smartphone. It will be bigger in 2025, from 6.1 to 6.3 inches. Still on the screen, Apple should (finally) bring ProMotion technology to its “classic” iPhone. The Cupertino company would also be working on a more efficient anti-reflective coating.
As for the camera, Apple is reportedly working on a new lens on the front. Apple would have set its sights on a 24 Mpx sensor. Finally, the iPhone 17 should have the right to a new processor, as well as a Wifi chip designed by Apple.
iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: still excellent

As for several years, Apple’s best smartphones will be the “Pro” and “Pro Max” versions of the iPhone 17. Sold a few hundred euros more expensive, these smartphones have a third photo sensor on the back (telephoto lens).
As you can see in the image above, Apple reportedly plans to review the positioning of these sensors. They would keep their position on the back of the phone, but the bump would go across the entire device, much like Google’s Pixels. As for the chassis, Apple could return to aluminum, thus ending the use of titanium. Apple should present this new hardware as an ecological breakthrough. It has already done this in the past with its connected watches.
Technical changes
In addition to these modifications specific to each of the phones, the 4 iPhone 17s should have a common update. They could be fitted with a vapor chamber to dissipate heat. Other developments are expected in terms of processors, with a new generation of chips on all iPhone 17 models.
The A19 chip should not have the right to the 2 nanometer engraving technology developed by TSMC. Instead it will be built around the N3P protocol, offering better performance and higher transistor density, while retaining 3 nanometer engraving.
The Apple brand could also improve the RAM level of its smartphones from 6 to 8 GB on the “standard” versions and from 10 to 12 GB on the “Pro” and “Pro Max” versions. However, Apple analysts and specialists are not unanimous on the subject. We will have to wait until September and the official presentation of the iPhone 17 to clarify this matter.
Price and release date
Finally, good news for the price of these smartphones, Apple should not touch it. As for the newcomer, the iPhone 17 “Air”, it should be sold between the “standard” iPhone and the “Pro” and “Pro Max” models. The four phones should be presented by Apple at the beginning of September, with marketing in the days that follow.
For the moment, no rumor has come forward on the presentation date of the next iPhones. Depending on Apple’s habits, the keynote could take place on Tuesday September 9 or Tuesday September 16. This information is, like all the others, still to be confirmed.
