The iPhone can be used for a whole bunch of things. Communicate with your loved ones, listen to music, browse the Internet: these are functions that all owners of Apple smartphones know perfectly well. On the other hand, there are undoubtedly very few who know that the iPhone can be used as a Wi-Fi modem. We explain the steps to follow to activate this feature on your device.
How to share your iPhone’s Internet connection via Wi-Fi
Yes, your iPhone can indeed turn into a Wi-Fi modem in order to share your Internet connection with other devices. You can do this using a feature called “Instant Hotspot”. “ Instant Hotspot uses your iPhone’s tethering, and is useful when your other device doesn’t have Internet access via a Wi-Fi network. », Indicates Apple.
You can connect your other device to your iPhone through Wi-Fi settings. Here’s how to do it.
- Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on on your iPhone and that it has enough network to support a 3, 4 or 5G connection
- Place the two devices within 10 meters of each other
- On your other device, open Control Center to turn on Wi-Fi
- If this device is linked to the same Apple account as the iPhone used as a modem, in the list of Wi-Fi connections offered, you just have to choose your iPhone

And there you have it, your other device is connected to your iPhone as if it were a Wi-Fi modem. “ When you’re not using Personal Hotspot, your devices automatically disconnect to conserve battery life. », Specifies the Cupertino company on its official website.
Tethering comes in handy if one of your devices or those of your loved ones have difficulty receiving cellular or Wi-Fi while your iPhone does it without problem.
