In December, an article relayed by 9To5Mac claimed that Apple was preparing to launch the standard iPhone 18 in the second quarter of 2026, alongside the iPhone 17e. This information was based on several rumors from the supply chain, suggesting an early launch to compensate for the postponement of the folding iPhone. A new report published by Nikkei Asia now contradicts this version, confirming a return to the initial scenario: the standard iPhone 18 would not be released until 2027as the first leaks had already suggested in 2025.
A revised schedule due to production
According to Nikkei Asia, Apple made this decision for purely industrial reasons. The report cites sources inside the assembly line, citing tensions over the supply of components, particularly RAM. The Pro variants and the folding model would still be expected in September 2026, but the standard version of the future iPhone 18 would be postponed to the first half of 2027.
You may therefore have to wait one more year to see the direct replacement for the iPhone 17 arrive. It is no longer simply a rumor relayed by social networks, but a lead supported by those involved in the production themselves, with concrete reasons mentioned.
The iPhone 17, a reinforced transition model
This shift in the calendar seems to retroactively confirm an intuition widely shared in recent months. Several observers believed that the iPhone 17 included an abnormally high number of improvements. Thinner design, A19 processor, new front camera and better battery life, all elements that could justify an extended commercial lifespan.
