On October 4, 2011, Apple presented one of its biggest projects to the specialized press. A few hours before the death of Steve Jobs, its founder, the apple entered a new era. It unveils “Siri”, its intelligent digital assistant, capable of helping the user with common tasks. Great novelty, Siri is controllable with voice commands.
The announcement, made by Tim Cook, is surprising. Alongside the iPhone 4 S, Siri is the good news from this bland conference. The general public discovered voice commands and a taste of what would become, more than a decade later, artificial intelligence.
But quickly, Siri disappoints. The use is far from the announced dream. The iPhone’s virtual assistant is quickly being called a “beast.” On the web, mockery and insults are multiplying. For almost 10 years, Siri has been described by the general public as “useless” or even “difficult to use”. Many criticize him for not understanding voice commands, even though they are basic.
A major overhaul
While Apple has never directly commented on the criticism of Siri, it appears to acknowledge that a problem persists. So in 2023, during the presentation of Apple Intelligence, Tim Cook gives great demonstrations.

The general public discovers a dream version of Siri. Able to understand the most complex commands and provide accurate responses. Only problem, this long-awaited version of Siri is still not here. It should arrive in spring 2026.
This overhaul must be very important, the future of the virtual assistant depends on it. Apple seems to have understood this and is deploying major means to achieve its ends. The Cupertino company has reportedly signed a partnership with Google to use Gemini, which is much more advanced, in the iPhone.
Siri: the story of a failure?
Since its introduction in 2011 until today, Siri has always been more disappointing than impressive. Will things finally change in spring 2026? Apple has every interest in taking this turn. Because without a virtual assistant worthy of the name, Apple would fall behind the competition.
AI-related technologies are invading our lives. Whether we like it or not. This new reality must also materialize in our iPhones. Apple knows this and must now move from promises to action.
