Apple launched its iPhone 17s last September, shortly after seeing its rivals launch their products over the summer. Google stood out with its new Pixel 10 while Samsung released its Z Flip7 and Z Fold7 folding phones. Let’s not forget Xiaomi and Oppo, who are shining with their new devices this fall. In short, Apple has no shortage of competitors in the smartphone market. This should not prevent the apple brand to once again be at the top in 2025.
Apple ready to take back smartphone market leadership from Samsung
Counterpoint Research, a specialist in market research for the technology industry, indicates in a report that Apple will regain its place as the world’s leading smartphone manufacturer in 2025 for the first time in over ten years.
The Cupertino company owes this return to the top to strong demand for the iPhone 17 (particularly in the United States and China), which will increase iPhone sales by 10% in 2025, compared to growth of 4.6% for its main competitor Samsung. Thus, Apple will hold a market share estimated at 19.4%.
Furthermore, Counterpoint Research reveals that 358 million used iPhones were sold between 2023 and the second quarter of 2025. Purchasing these devices with a shorter lifespan could lead to more smartphone changes “ in the years to come “.

The arrival of the folding iPhone in 2026 and the iPhone 20 in 2027 for the 20th anniversary of the smartphone should allow Apple to maintain this good dynamic. Counterpoint Research believes that the American company should therefore remain market leader at least until 2029.
The report nevertheless specifies that the installed base of Android smartphones is estimated at more than 70% on a global scale. However, Apple dominates in the United States with a market share close to 60%.
