There are statistics that make you dizzy. The ranking of the best-selling smartphones in 2025 is one of them. For years, Apple has dominated this top 10, with several models in the top positions. But in 2025, competition is almost… non-existent.
Apple without opponent
The top 4 best-selling smartphones of the year are iPhones. These are respectively the iPhone 16, the 16 Pro Max, the 16 Pro and at the foot of the podium, the 17 Pro Max. You have to wait until 5th place to find another manufacturer’s place: Samsung.
Apple’s historic rival arrives halfway with Galaxy A16 5G. It is closely followed by another model from the South Korean manufacturer, the Galaxy A06 5G. The 7th and 8th positions are again occupied by iPhones. We are talking here about the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 15.

Samsung’s only high-end phone in this ranking, the S25 Ultra occupies the 9th and penultimate position. The top 10 closes with the 16th, an iPhone that has nevertheless been severely criticized, notably by YouTuber Marquess Brownlee who made it his “flop” of the year.

2026, even better?
As if this ranking were not enough to demonstrate Apple’s domination in the world of manufacturers, 2026 promises to be under the best auspices for the Cupertino firm. Indeed, analyst Harshit Rastogi calculated that the iPhone 17 saw its sales figures beat those of the iPhone 16 for its first quarter of marketing.

In detail, the iPhone 17 makes 16% more sales compared to the iPhone 16 over their first three months of existence. If this initial growth does not run out of steam, the iPhone 17 could well become more popular than the iPhone. It would thus easily reach number 1 in the ranking of the best-selling smartphones in 2026.
The iPhone 16e, 10th, should quickly be updated by Apple for an iPhone 17e announced as even more affordable and “correcting” the main faults of its predecessor. Will these developments be enough to make the iPhone 17th gain positions in the 2026 rankings? We will only have the answer in a year.
