the iPhone screen can flash to alert you of a notification, how does it work?

iOS 26.2 introduces several new settings. Some relate to interface customization, such as making the clock transparent on the lock screen. Others modify the behavior of certain system applications, such as the management of reminders or conversations in CarPlay. These additions confirm that iOS 26.2 is a substantive update, focused on practical improvements.

Among the new features spotted, one feature particularly attracts attention: that allowing the iPhone screen to flash when you receive a notification. For several years now, you have been able to activate the LED flash on the back of the iPhone when you receive a call, a notification, or any other alert. Here we describe how to activate this light alert.

iOS 26.2 now adds a second visual cue, directly on the screenin the form of a lighting effect that lasts a fraction of a second, just enough to catch the eye. Here’s how to activate it.

How to make the iPhone screen flash when you receive an alert?

  • Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone and tap “Accessibility,” then continue to “Audio & Visual”

  • Check “Screen” so that the display lights up briefly during a notification. Please note, activating “Screen” deactivates “LED Flash”. Choose “Both” to activate screen and LED flash at the same time

This new type of light signal can help you no longer miss notifications if your iPhone remains placed remotely or on silent.
