Mobile plans in France offer increasingly generous data packages, whereas in its early days, mobile internet was only used to consult a few web pages or check emails. Operators have gradually increased these envelopes to follow new uses, while ensuring that subscribers do not replace their internet box with their mobile plan, which would risk saturating the network.
In October 2025, SFR nevertheless reached a milestone by launching a package announced as the first completely unlimited mobile internet subscription without the condition of subscribing to a box. In reality, Orange already offered a similar offer in 2020, but at a price much higher.
While the subscription has now been available for almost five months, several subscribers to the unlimited SFR package report unexpected behavior which calls into question the promise of truly unlimited access.
A break that no one predicted
On the social network X, a subscriber published a long video testimony to describe the problem in detail. He explains that his connection internet shuts down automatically after around 20 GB usedin a single session, whether on an iPhone, a Xiaomi or even a 5G router. The phone still shows the 5G logo, but it actually becomes unable to access the internetwhile calls and texts continue to function normally.

To find your connectionmanipulation is necessary each time. He must activate airplane mode, then deactivate it immediatelywhich restarts a new data session. The subscriber even created an automatic shortcut on his phone so he no longer has to do it by hand, as the outage comes back so often.
A problem that does not seem isolated
This testimony found a wide echo on the official SFR forum, where other subscribers describe very similar limitations. Some of them also claim that this cutoff threshold was previously at only 5 GB, before being raised to 20 GB.
SFR has not yet officially reacted to these reportsand customer service did not provide a clear response to the subscribers concerned.
